The week in brief. [14 May 2009|02:21am]
- Got my 45s back today. They're completely out of order, but seem to be all accounted for.
- Yaz & I saw STAR TREK tonight and we both liked it.
- I go into the studio w/ Scott tomorrow night for a funk recording project that my homie Hugo is doing for an audio class. Should be fun.
- My legit DVD copies of FREEBIE AND THE BEAN, CLIFFORD, FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET, OUTLAW BLUES, DUSTY & SWEETS MCGEE, and DOC SAVAGE are on order.
- After striking out with an initial design, Richard & Michael dug my second idea for this month's DIG DEEPER flyer:

- Speaking of which, DIG DEEPER (and my flyers) were featured in THERE'S THAT BEAT UK soul mag this month.
- As suspected, the Korean vegetable soontofu at Tofu Village is NOT vegetarian. So begins my next cooking project: VEGAN SOONTOFU! It will look like this, minus the fish/beef/egg:

April 2009 vinyl finds [25 Apr 2009|05:31pm]
I was early for the Upright Citizens Brigade performance last night so I perused the racks at Counterpoint a few doors down. I found enough stuff to return the next day, and got these LPs at a 30% discount (about $50 total). The 45s were eBay and online purchases.

Pics behind the cut. )

My first "real" celebrity sighting in LA. [02 Apr 2009|02:23am]
Finally.

Drew Barrymore at the Short Stop for my friends' Mahssa (B-Music), Jason (Dura-Delinquent), and Kevin's (Circle Jerks) 60s-70s night.

As expected, she was shorter than I thought she'd be.

I saw Harlan Ellison on Thursday [15 Mar 2009|10:48pm]
He was a guest at a showing of A BOY AND HIS DOG at the New Beverly Cinema. He started his presentation by barking "EVERYONE STOP FUCKING CLAPPING" and for about 45 minutes continued to badmouth the audience, co-host screenwriter Josh Olson, Roland Emmerich ("That nazi"), LQ Jones ("That redneck"), girls who punctuate their speech with the word "like" ("I want to wring their necks"), his first four wives, and the world in general. Naturally he was hilarious and entertaining as hell.
